Hayesfield Girls’ School and Mixed Sixth Form was the first school in Bath to successfully undergo an Ofsted Inspection under the new Framework in March 2017. The new Ofsted Inspection Framework subjects schools to a significantly increased rigorous and robust inspection procedure, so we are very proud to have been awarded the judgment of being a Good School with an Outstanding Sixth Form.
The opening comment in the Inspection Report praises our inclusive ethos and our high expectation for teaching and learning. We have worked hard to ensure that all students achieve well at Hayesfield and this report commends the work we do to challenge the most able so they make strong progress across a wide range of subjects and the support we provide to those who join the school with weak skills in reading, writing and mathematics. The Inspection Report describes our students as confident, self assured learners with exemplary behaviour – these are the qualities that we instil in our students so that they can go on and achieve their ambitions!
The year-on-year improvement in A Level results in our Sixth Form has resulted in the 16-19 study programme being rated as Outstanding. The Inspection Report states that ‘Students achieve well across the full range of subjects as a result of outstanding teaching and the strong leadership of the Sixth Form’. We gained a place in the top 10% of Sixth Forms nationally in 2015 for progress and I was delighted to read in the Report that the Inspection team has related this success to the culture that we have in our Sixth Form. The Report states, ‘Students show excellent attitudes to their learning. They attend lessons well and undertake preparation and complete follow-up work diligently. Their enthusiastic involvement in their learning means that time is used well.’ I would like to thank our students for being so proud of their Sixth Form – students told Inspectors that their lessons often feel more like high powered seminars. What a great comment!
I joined Hayesfield in January 2014, and the staff have worked with me to constantly review and improve our teaching across the school. The Inspection Report declared many subjects across the school as outstanding, including English, which is in the top 10% of schools nationally for progress measures. In 2016, Hayesfield was placed in the top 25% of schools nationally for Progress 8, and was rated the top school in Bath’s Performance Tables for achievement and attendance. Our Inspection Report helpfully pinpoints some actions that we now need to secure so that we can improve even further.

At the time of a school inspection and any time of the year, parents can give their views to Ofsted using the Parent View questionnaire. Your responses will help Ofsted to form an accurate picture of our school and give it a fair judgement. We also use the responses collected from Parent View to gauge how well we are performing in key areas like communication, behaviour and school leadership, as part of our Self Evaluation Process.
