The Regional Youth Orchestra Artiance Alkmaar comprises of 75 talented young musicians aged from 10-18 years, under the inspired leadership of their conductor Otto de Jong.
They play in the Netherlands and further afield in Europe, performing a wide variety of music from classical to jazz and pop.
Their visit to Bath this year commemorates a link that was forged between Bath and Alkmaar in 1945 when residents of Bath sent money and food to Alkmaar, where people were dying of hunger during the last year of the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands.
This talented youth orchestra comes to Bath 70 years later, inspired by the kindness of the City and seeking to perpetuate this important link.
Their playing will offer us the opportunity to reflect through music on Peace and Reconciliation.
